God's irrevocable judgment comes to every soul immediately after death. The ruling or verdict of that judgment will either be eternal life in heaven or eternal damnation in hell, depending on how the soul concerned lived on earth. Consider the following statement made by the Lord Jesus Christ - "And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, ..." - Luke 16:22-23.

The Lord wants us to make the right choices in life. He commands us to prove all things and to test the spirits by His Word. The written word of God is given to guide us in the way we should go. The Bible warns us against covetousness but admonishes us to earnestly covet the best spiritual gifts. The value of the soul of a man is not measured by the abundance of his material possessions. What shall it profit you if your pocket is full and your heart is empty? Everyone who labours to enrich himself with the material things of this life at the expense of his impoverished soul can best be described as a fool.

Although Peter recognised the speaker as Lord and Master, yet his response was contradictory. By saying, 'not so, Lord', Peter appears to be saying that he knows better than the Lord. But a slave should obey his Lord without question. Or shouldn't a servant carry out his Master's command without argument? Whatever appears to be the foolishness of God is wiser than men.
