It was agreed that Prophet Samuel would meet up with King Saul and his men at Gilgal within seven days as they were waiting to engage the Philistines in a battle. As a priest Prophet Samuel was expected to offer sacrifice unto God in preparation for the battle. Unfortunately, Samuel did not show up at the appointed time so Saul forced himself and offered the sacrifice when he saw the armies of Philistines advancing. In times like these when many are yielding to temptations, we have a solid assurance from God's word that Jesus is able to keep us from falling. Every believer should therefore seek to have the mind of Christ.

Believers who live and walk before men are menpleasers and do not have the fear of God. They may obey the word of God whenever they are among the people of God. However, in the absence of fellow believers, especially their leaders, they can even quarrel and fight for their rights in disobedience to God's word. The true measure of obedience to the word of God is seen outside the Church, among unbelievers.

Godliness is profitable and it pays to know and serve the Lord Jesus Christ. As a godly youth, Daniel resisted temptation, restrained his appetite and abstained from every appearance of evil. He purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself. The decision he made as a young man saw him through life as a godly prosperous man. Beware of the decisions you make today because of the far-reaching consequences they will have on your life.
