The heart of the believer is tender and needs to be constantly watched over to avoid corruption and defilement. When God justifies a man, and makes him righteous at salvation, He also gives him the charge to keep himself pure. Failing in the responsibility to take away the things that have the capacity to defile a man will eventually result in eternal damnation. The believer is therefore expected to eschew evil and to abstain from all appearance of it.

David could not go to battle with the armour of Saul because he had not proved them. He recalled how he killed a lion and a bear in the past, and was protected by the armour of faith. He believed that the same God that delivered him from the lion and the bear could do it again. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today and forever.

If Satan has the power, he would have killed everyone on the earth and destroyed the world in a moment. But glory be to God, all power in heaven and in earth belong to Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of the Almighty God. Therefore, there is a limit to what Satan can do in your life. He does not have the final say in the issues and affairs of your life. Although he may afflict you, Satan cannot destroy you if you remain faithful to Jesus Christ, the source of all power.

The rich young ruler was a good man who observed the ten commandments from his youth, but it is sad to discover that he was not good enough for heaven. He was disqualified, because according to Jesus, he lacked one thing: he had no power over his material possessions. He failed the test to deny himself, take up his cross and follow the Lord. Although he was a good man, he was not saved.

The Lord is a shelter in the time of storm for those who trust in Him. Addressing the believer, the Lord said: "I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honour him" - Psalm 91:15b. There is no need to worry since God has promised to be with you in troublous times. God is your defence and no weapon that is fashioned against you shall prosper.
