Water Lilies typically grow in very shallow, muddy or miry water. Just like the water lily which stands out white and beautiful in miry water, it is also possible for the believer to exude purity in this filthy world. Although the believer is in the world, they are not of the world. Jesus said: They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world - John 17:16. As a believer you are there to shine and light up the dark world around you. Always remember that light is stronger than darkness.

The Scripture declares that it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, you call God a liar whenever you think or say that it is not possible for a man to be perfect. As Abram was commanded by the Almighty God to be perfect so also has the Lord commanded all his children in every generation to be perfect. The standard of the Lord has never been and will never be altered or lowered for any man.

King David had secretly committed adultery with Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah and later plotted the murder of her husband. After the death of Uriah, David took Bathsheba to be his wife. Although the king tried to cover his sin from men, he could not hide it from God. When the Lord sent Prophet Nathan to David and uncovered his secret sin, he promptly repented in humility, saying: "I have sinned against the LORD".

Religion is either pure or vain. Sadly though, the religious life of many people falls short of God's standard. They go to Church, some even work in the Church as ministers, yet their lives are full of cursing, swearing, lying, evil-speaking and selfishness. The word of God says such people are deceiving themselves with vain religion. The world is filthy, and you must avoid being stained by it. Evil communications corrupt good manners.

King Ahab with the help of his wife Jezebel had killed Naboth that he may take possession of Naboth's vineyard. Because of this evil the Lord sent Prophet Elijah to Ahab, to pronounce judgment against his house. On hearing the message of the Lord as declared by the man of God, Ahab responded with humility which attracted the mercy of God. The penalty of Ahab's sin was delayed because of his humility.
