There are secrets in the Scriptures that will enable believers to serve God acceptably when they are revealed. Although these secrets are there in the Word of God, only those who search the Scriptures diligently will discover and profit from them. It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter - Proverbs 25:2.

The deliverance of Israel from Egyptian bondage was by God's mighty hand. Israel however, quickly forgot God's redemptive power demonstrated in Egypt. The Lord spared their lives in the face of the ten terrible plagues that devastated the land of Egypt. They also forgot the miracle of crossing the red sea. Pharaoh and his army tried to cross the same sea but all perished by drowning. 

It is a wise decision to build your house upon a rock because that house will be protected in the face of adverse weather conditions. Likewise, you are blessed when you obey the words of Jesus Christ because you will be protected from the attacks of the devil. Those who hear God's word but do not obey it are only deceiving themselves. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, ... - James 1:22.

As believers, we are called to walk the way of the cross every day. Even Christ suffered for us denying himself, and leaving us an example, that we should follow his steps. Jesus, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously. He also bore his cross to Golgotha, the place of his crucifixion - John 19:17.

The exhortation to earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints was given because of the prevalence of false apostles in the early church. These false apostles or deceitful workers are also in the church today, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. They preach another Jesus, proclaim another gospel and operate by another spirit.
