Key Text: Ephesians 6:1 KJV - Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
In Colossians 3:20, children are commanded to obey their parents in all things: for it is well blessing unto the Lord. However, it will not be pleasing to the Lord, if a child, in obedience to his parents goes to steal. Children are to obey their parents in the Lord. The secret to enjoying good days and long life is in obeying and honouring your father and mother.
It is the responsibility of parents to train their children in the way of the Lord, bringing them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, so that they will not depart from it when they grow up. Fathers are cautioned, as they discharge parental duties, not to provoke their children to anger, lest they be discouraged. The erring children should be disciplined but in love.
The mothers also have their role in the parents-children relationship. They are specially called to teach their children the ways of the Lord. We have a good example in Proverbs 31 where king Lemuel recounted what his mother taught him. There are grave consequences when parents and children fail in their God-given responsibilities.
Prayer: Father, I pray for your help as I try to carry out my duties and responsibilities in my family, in Jesus name. Amen.
Reflection: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it - Proverbs 22:6.
