A Timely Reminder

Jun 13 2017

Key Text: 1 John 2:1 KJV - My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

God, because of the deadly consequence of sin has given us His Word to keep us from sin. Referring to the Bible, John Bunyan wrote "Either this book will keep you from sin or sin will keep you from this book". The word of God purifies and cleanses us from all sin when we simply obey the commandments of the Lord. God's word is life and rescues man from the power of sin and spiritual death.

As God's children, our responsibility is to hide His word in our heart so that we will not sin against Him. The process of hiding God's word in our heart involves reading, studying and meditating upon it. Sin is associated with darkness but the entrance of the word into the heart gives light and understanding to the simple. It is only those who are enlightened by the word that can experience victory over sin.

If any man sin, let him run to Jesus Christ our advocate and the propitiation for our sins. He will not cast you out but He will plead for you to incur divine favour and avoid divine retribution ("The soul that sinneth, it shall die"). Return unto the Lord and He will have mercy upon you and abundantly pardon you. Hallelujah!

Prayer: O Lord, give me the grace to hide your word in my heart for perpetual victory over sin, in Jesus name. Amen.

Reflection: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee - Psalm 119:11.
