Key Text: James 2:17 KJV - "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone."
The faith that really works is the faith that does work. It is living, active and productive faith. Dormant or idle faith on the other hand is dead and produces no result. That is the faith that says "I believe in God" or "I know God" but continues in disobedience to the word of God. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin - James 4:17.
We are saved by grace through faith, "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." Abraham was already walking with God when his faith was tried. In obedience to God, he offerred up his only begotten son because he believed that God was able to raise him up from the dead - Hebrews 11:17-19.
Nobody can be saved without faith in Jesus Christ. The Lord only saves those who believe in him - "Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?" - Isaiah 53:1. The greatness of the God of Israel was known in Jericho but it was only Rahab the harlot that believed and was saved - "Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?" - James 2:25
Prayer: O Lord, I want to please you always. May my faith be demonstrated by my works, in Jesus' name. Amen.
Reflection: For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. - James 2:26.
