Key Text: Proverbs 23:4 KJV - Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
God's word counsels us to cease from worldly wisdom which does not generate true riches. The Bible declares, "And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” - Jeremiah 45:5a, Matthew 6:33. Greatness, riches and wealth do not come because of much labour.
It is a waste of time to labour primarily for earthly riches: for what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven. People should care more about the life they live than the riches they acquire.
No one can carry their riches with them when they die. Therefore, we must not focus on the things which are seen, but on the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal - 2 Corinthians 4:18. Precious people, let your labour be directed at securing eternal salvation which guarantees everlasting bliss in the kingdom of God.
Prayer: O Lord, help me to be focussed and may I not be deceived by the perishable things of this life, in Jesus' name. Amen.
Reflection: Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few - Matthew 9:37.
