Key Text: Matthew 5:48 KJV - Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
The Scripture declares that it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, you call God a liar whenever you think or say that it is not possible for a man to be perfect. As Abram was commanded by the Almighty God to be perfect so also has the Lord commanded all his children in every generation to be perfect. The standard of the Lord has never been and will never be altered or lowered for any man.
God will be partial and unjust if His demand for perfection now is anything less than what it used to be in the Old Testament. Enoch walked consistently with God for three hundred years, and the Lord was pleased with him. At a time when the whole world rejected the way of God, Noah, a just and perfect man chose to walk with the Lord. And testifying of Job, God said he was a perfect and an upright man.
The God of Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Job and many other Old and New Testament saints is still God today. Jesus commands every believer to be perfect: if it were not possible, he would have told us. The perfection enjoined by Christ involves loving your enemies, blessing them that curse you, doing good to them that hate you, and praying for them that despitefully use you, and persecute you. It is a challenge to be like your Father.
Prayer: O Lord, make me holy and perfect just as you are, in Jesus' name. Amen.
Reflection: Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy - 1 Peter 1:16.
