Key Text: 1 Kings 21:29 KJV - Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.
King Ahab with the help of his wife Jezebel had killed Naboth that he may take possession of Naboth's vineyard. Because of this evil the Lord sent Prophet Elijah to Ahab, to pronounce judgment against his house. On hearing the message of the Lord as declared by the man of God, Ahab responded with humility which attracted the mercy of God. The penalty of Ahab's sin was delayed because of his humility.
Wherever humility is found, the grace and mercy of God are automatically attracted. Prophet Jonah announced to the Ninevites, that the judgment of God was due to fall upon them in forty days, and they believed God. When God saw the humility of the Nivevites, that they turned from their evil way; he repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
How do you react to the warnings that you read from the Bible or hear from true ministers of God? Ahab and the Ninevites responded with humility and repentance, and the Lord spared their lives. King Uzziah also received warning from the Lord not to burn incense in the house of the Lord but his heart was lifted to his destruction. Be humble: pride goes before destruction.
Prayer: O Lord, purge me of every iota of pride and be merciful unto me, in Jesus' name. Amen.
Reflection: But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble - James 4:6.
