Key Text: 2 Peter 2:9 KJV - The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
The godly are those who continue to follow God after they have been saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Both the godly and the unjust are faced with suggestions to do evil and disobey God, at all times. The Holy Spirit prompts the godly to choose to do good in the face of trials. The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations. He will never leave His own, neither will He forsake them.
Joseph was a godly youth serving in the house of Potiphar. When he was tempted to sleep with the wife of his master, he ran away to save his soul. However, there are situations that require us to only speak to the tempter as was the case of Jesus when he was tempted by the devil. At the hour of temptation the Lord will show you the way of escape. He will give you the words to speak and direct you on what to do.
There are youthful lusts to flee as a child of God, and the Lord will help you to spot them. Walk in the spirit and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. The Lord will always deliver those who follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and meekness. Having been saved, you can remain godly by praying, studying and obeying His word to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Prayer: O Lord, help me to be faithful in my walk with you and deliver me out of every temptation, in Jesus' name. Amen.
Reflection: Watch and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak - Mark 14:38.
