Key Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:21 KJV - Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
The Lord wants us to make the right choices in life. He commands us to prove all things and to test the spirits by His Word. The written word of God is given to guide us in the way we should go. Therefore, we should no more be children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive – Ephesians 4:14.
Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. He can come as an angel of light: false apostle, false prophet or false teacher; to sift you as wheat (take away that which is most important from you). Yield yourself unto the Lord that he may direct your steps in the way that you should go.
Do not be deceived but grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, as you study His Word. Jesus overcame by the Word and we are commanded to prove all things that we may also overcome by the Word. Always check to ensure that what you are about to do or say agrees with the word of God. Be like the Berean believers who always verified a preacher's message by the written word.
Prayer: Father, help me to walk in the knowledge of the truth that I may overcome the spirit of deception, in Jesus' name. Amen.
Reflection: These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so - Acts 17:11.
