Key Text: Matthew 26:41 KJV - Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Shortly after the last supper, before going to mount Olives, Jesus revealed to his disciples that they would all forsake Him that night. Despite Peter's response in verses 33 and 35 of Matthew chapter 26, he both forsook and denied the Lord. False prophets, teachers and apostles are walking about like wolves in sheep's clothing seeking whom they may deceive. Brethren, we must watch and pray so that we are not overcome by temptation.
When Jesus was arrested having been betrayed by Judas, all his disciples forsook Him and fled. Peter struggled hard to keep his commitment but after a short while he also began to follow Him from afar. The disciples could not overcome because they failed to watch and pray at Gethsemane - the place of prayer. Have you prayed today? You must read your Bible and pray every day, if you want to live the victorious Christian life.
Every time you are faced with the temptation to forsake or deny the Lord, always remember that you cannot overcome by the energy of the flesh. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. You constantly need the help of the Lord to overcome every temptation, no matter how small it may be. This help is available only to watchful and prayerful believers.
Prayer: O Lord, strengthen my inner man and stir me up in the spirit that I may watch and pray without ceasing, in Jesus' name. Amen.
Reflection: Pray without ceasing - 1 Thessalonians 5:17.
