Key Text: Romans 12:2 KJV - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Christians are warned against following worldly examples and standards. They are not permitted to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. Others may tell lies, jest, gossip, embezzle funds, bear false witness, but as followers of Christ, we are called to be different. We are not allowed to join a multitude to do anything that will not bring glory to the name of the Lord and His kingdom.
To avoid being trapped by worldly attractions, Christians should study the word of God and rely on the leading of the Holy Spirit. We should avoid the broad way, striving against sin to enter heaven through the narrow gate. This is possible by renewing our mind through reading, studying and meditating on the word of God. Dare to stand alone, contending for the faith, no matter the consequences. Also, endeavour to hate what God hates and love what He loves.
Here's the song of a non-conformist: Though no one joins me, still I will follow; No turning back, No turning back. His statement of commitment is: I have laid my hands on the plough, I cannot look back any more. He does not return to his own vomit nor go back to wallow in the mire from which he was washed. You must constantly press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Prayer: O Lord, keep me from conforming to the standards and ways of this world, in Jesus' name. Amen.
Reflection: Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him - 1 John 2:15.
