VICTORY OVER TEMPTATION

Dec 01 2024

Key Text: James 4:7 KJV - Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

The devil cannot force sin down your throat if you are a believer. But what you do when he comes with temptation matters a great deal. Temptation is not sin and is common to all but yielding to it is sin. Therefore, to overcome, you must resist the devil by speaking the written word or disconnecting from the object of temptation. You must learn to walk in the Spirit and you will never fulfil the lust of the flesh.

David yielded to Satan's temptation when he saw the nakedness of Uriah's wife and committed adultery with her. Joseph was faced with a similar temptation to commit adultery with Potiphar's wife on her invitation, but he overcame by fleeing. Today you can purpose in your heart like Daniel, that you will not defile yourself and refuse to yield to Satan's temptations.

Jesus overcame by repeatedly speaking the written Word when tempted by Satan. But sometimes like Joseph, we may also need to move away from the object of temptation, to overcome. Yield yourself to God and he will empower you to overcome every temptation that comes your way.

Prayer: O Lord, show me what to do or say in the hour of temptation, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Reflection: There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it - 1 Corinthians 10:13.
