Key Text: Proverbs 23:4 KJV - Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
Worldly wisdom teaches man to labour in order to be rich but God counsels us to cease from this kind of wisdom which does not generate true riches. The Bible declares, "And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Greatness, riches and wealth do not come as a result of much labour: for by strength shall no man prevail. The Lord is looking for labourers in the field of souls.
Why are you labouring for that which does not satisfy? It is a waste of time to labour for earthly riches: for what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven. Earthly riches are not real, they are transient.
Labour not to be rich: we must not labour to acquire the physical things of this world at the expense of eternal life. We must not labour for the things which are seen, but for the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. Precious people, let your labour be directed at obtaining eternal salvation which guarantees everlasting bliss in the kingdom of God. Are you born again? If yes, what are you doing in the kingdom? If no, run to Jesus now for the salvation of your soul.
Prayer: O Lord, may I not labour for the perishable things of this life but for the things that have eternal value, in Jesus name. Amen.
Reflection: Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few - Matthew 9:37.
