Key Text: Luke 12:21 KJV - So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
The Bible warns us against covetousness but admonishes us to earnestly covet the best spiritual gifts. The value of the soul of a man is not measured by the abundance of his material possessions. What shall it profit you if your pocket is full and your heart is empty of God? Everyone who labours to enrich himself with the material things of this life at the expense of his impoverished soul can best be described as a fool.
Many people have misplaced their possessions before their heart and the Lord is warning them to reorder their priorities. The parable of the rich fool in Luke Chapter 12 shows that those seeking things instead of eternal life will suddenly be cut off unprepared for eternity. Are you seeking great things for yourself? seek them not, but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and these things shall be added unto you.
People of God, watch over your hearts. And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares - Luke 21:34. Your bank account may be full but God approves only those whose heearts are filled with His Word. Therefore, study to hide God's Word in your heart that you may win His approval.
Prayer: O Lord, while many are striving to fill their pockets, help me to fill my heart with the word of life, in Jesus name. Amen.
Reflection: Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom - Proverbs 23:4.
