Key Text: Isaiah 50:4 KJV - The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.
The learned refers to believers who have come to the knowledge of the truth through the study of the scriptures. They speak out of the abundance of God's word hidden in their heart. The tongue of the learned is given by the Lord that we may know how to speak and how to answer every man. Every child of God should possess a soft, wholesome and tamed tongue that utters gracious words, but that is not always the case.
Although a Christian, if you are still lying, swearing and cursing, it is time to pray for the tongue of the learned. Bridle your tongue that your words may encourage the discouraged, save the sinner, deliver the oppressed and heal the sick. Let no corrupt communication will proceed out of your mouth but that which is good to the use of edifying that it may minister grace unto the hearers - Ephesians 4:29.
Let us follow the example of our Master, Jesus Christ. He spoke as He heard from His Father; "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge:" - John 5:30. We can receive the tongue of the learned by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Hear, read and study the Word in season and out of season. Except a man be born again, he cannot possess the tongue of the learned.
Prayer: O Lord, teach me that I may know how to speak and how to answer every man, in Jesus name. Amen.
Reflection: The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips - Proverbs 16:23.
