Key Text: John 4:14 KJV - But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
At the cross of Calvary when Jesus Christ was smitten by the Father, the Living water was released which flows into everyone who believes. Therefore, there's a reservior of living water in the spirit of every born-again believer. However, this living water is trapped in the human spirit and can only flow into the soul of those willing to dig their wells of life.
A community can die of thirst even though they have an aquifer underground, if they fail to sink a well that will conduct water to the surface. The process of sinking a water well involves drilling out various layers of dirt to reach the underground water in the aquifer. In like manner, a believer who wants to enjoy the water of life must endeavour to dig away the many things in their heart condemned by the Lord.
In summary, digging the well of life to access the water of life for your soul involves: i) Renewing your mind - Romans 12:2, ii) Purifying your heart - James 4:8, iii) Ensuring that your conscience is void of offence towards God and men - Acts 24:16, iv) Submitting your will to God - Matthew 26:39, and v) Setting your affection on things above - Colossians 3:2.
Prayer: O Lord, empower me to dig away all the inward dirt that hinders the flow of your living water within my spirit, in Jesus' name. Amen.
Reflection: He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water - John 7:38.
