STOP LOOKING BACKWARDS

Jan 19 2024

Key Text: Luke 9:62 KJV - And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

A backslider is one who moves away from Christ rather that moving towards Him, after salvation by grace through faith. Backsliding is forbidden for every believer in Christ because it makes them unfit for the kingdom of God. There is no point in getting saved if one will not make heaven at last. In our walk with God, we must always remember Lot's wife, who was saved but later backslid by looking back with the desire to return to Sodom.

Have you been saved from sin? If so, do not allow yourself to be entangled again with the yoke of bondage. The children of Israel were saved from Egyptian bondage, but their heart longed for the fish, cucumbers, melons, onions and garlic of Egypt. Their backsliding disqualified them from entering the promised land. Although they were still on the journey to Canaan, their heart had drifted back to Egypt.

We must never yield to the temptation to look back, no matter how strong it may be. Many professing believers are backsliders: they were truly moving towards Christ but later turned and started moving away from Him, in their heart. The only way available for backsliders to get restored back to fellowship with the Lord is repentance. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works - Revelation 2:5.

Prayer: O Lord, help me to always remember Lot's wife, that I may remain steadfast till the end, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Reflection: But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt - Genesis 19:26.
