SEEK THE PRINCIPAL THING

May 21 2023

Key Text: Matthew 4:4 KJV - But he answered and said, it is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

As physical food is for the body so is the word of God for the soul of man. Your diet is not balanced if all that you depend on for sustenance is food. Your soul will be malnourished and you will eventually die of hunger if you fail to feed on the words that come out of the mouth of God. What shall it profit a man, if he shall have enough food and lose his own soul for lack of spiritual nourishment.

The word that proceeds out of the mouth of God is wisdom, that is knowledge plus understanding. When the Lord gives us knowledge, he also opens our understanding that we may know how to apply that knowledge aright. Unfortunately, many of God's people are being destroyed because they reject the knowledge that comes from the Lord - Hosea 4:6.

While food is necessary for the body, man cannot survive by it alone. The principal need for man's survival is wisdom, therefore get wisdom and with all thy getting, get understanding - Proverbs 4:7. God's word is able to make sinners wise unto salvation and by it believers shall be delivered from deception. No man can truly live without the word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

Prayer: Father, I am hungry for your word. Feed me with the knowledge of your word, and open my understanding, in Jesus name. Amen.

Reflection: For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding - Proverbs 2:6.
