The New Year Journey

Jan 02 2017

Key Text: Numbers 9:18 KJV - At the commandment of the LORD the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the LORD they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they rested in their tents.

The journey of the children of Israel from Egypt to the promised land of Canaan was carried out at the commandment of the Lord. He led Israel through the entire wilderness journey by a pillar of cloud in the day, and by a pillar of fire in the night. The host of Israel acknowledged the presence of the Lord in their midst and followed every of His commandments to journey or pitch their tent. They did not argue with the leadership of their Commander.

At redemption, the believer actually starts a journey from this sinful world to heaven. It is only the Lord that knows the way through the wilderness to the promised land. All that the believer should do to arrive safely in heaven is to follow Jesus who is revealed in Scripture as The Way. He alone knows when it is safe to journey on and when to wait for a clear coast. Like the children of Israel, if anyone follows the leading of the Lord, they will arrive at their expected destination - heaven.

As we journey through another year, although we may not see the pillars of cloud and fire among us, the Holy Spirit of God is here to lead His people: for as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the children of God. We can follow the commandment of the Lord by simply walking in the Spirit. Otherwise, we will find ourselves fulfilling the lust of the flesh thereby arguing with our Commander. Let us look up to the Lord to bid us go or stay as we journey at His command.

Prayer: O Lord, you alone know the way through this new year. I pray for the grace to follow you faithfully to the end, in Jesus name. Amen.

Reflection: For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace - Romans 8:6.
