HOW TO MORTIFY THE FLESH

Aug 12 2021

Key Text: Colossians 3:5 KJV - Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

The works of the flesh will manifest wherever the flesh is in control. As you live in this body of clay, you will be tempted to indulge in the works or deeds of the flesh. Even Jesus was tempted by the devil, but glory be to God; He overcame. To overcome like Jesus, you must yield your body to Him with the strong determination to always obey God rather than men.

Beloved, you are responsible for mortifying or bringing your body into subjection. Abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul; abstain from all appearance of evil, eschew evil, and do good; walk in the Spirit and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh; resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

After His temptation in the wilderness, the devil left Jesus for a season; which means that he returned from time to time with more temptations. Because a servant is not greater than his master, the devil will also tempt us in like manner. But thanks be to God who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able to bear. The proven means of mortifying the flesh is to set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth.

Prayer: O Lord, give me victory every day over the flesh, in Jesus name. Amen.

Reflection: For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live - Romans 8:13.
